The Pakistani guests arrived on 31 July to talk about further links after the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding in March 2023.

The team comprised Assistant Professor of the Department of International Relations, Deputy Director of the Department of Industrialization and Research Commercialization Faisal Javaid, Assistant Professor of the Department of International Relations Muhammad Arif Khan, and Invited Professor of the same department Sayed Muhammad Farkhan.

Vice-Rector for International Affairs Timirkhan Alishev spoke about KFU’s priorities and international students, of which there were over 11,500 during the past academic year. Three of them were Pakistani citizens.

The Vice-Rector mentioned his visit to Pakistan in 2022 and noted that many local young people want to enroll in KFU, and there is a number of research institutions with which KFU would like to cooperate.

Dr Javaid then introduced FUUAST. He said that his university is interested in collaborating in chemistry, microbiology, pharmaceutics, international relations, IT, teacher education, and economics. Double diplomas and scientific forums are also up for discussion.

KFU has standing ties with COMSTECH, Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s comittee for research cooperation – its headquarters are located in Pakistan. Pakistani chemists are set to intern at KFU soon as part of this cooperation.

FUUAST academics are also invited to the International Congress of Social and Political Scientists of the Turkic World, a KFU-organized convention set for October 2023, and OIC Youth Scientific Congress in November 2023.

“I learned that Kazan Federal University has existed for more than 200 years and that a large number of outstanding scientists have worked here. Now KFU is a large university with a huge number of students and many different areas of training. I am impressed by what I have seen! We would like to cooperate with Kazan University both in student exchange and in science. The first step towards establishing a relationship between our universities should be conferences at which our scientists can outline ways of cooperation,” shared Dr Javaid.

The guests also visited the Preparatory School and the Institute of International Relations.
