KFU and State Committee for Archives of Tatarstan continue cooperating in identification of valuable manuscripts – Kazan Federal University

Rector Lenar Safin met with Committee Chairwoman Gulnara Gabdrakhmanova.

The Rector noted that the two sides should increase their efforts in evaluating and categorizing old manuscripts from KFU’s huge collection and their future registration in state databases.

The two executives agreed to first go through digitized books and manuscripts in open access – there are about 160,000 such items at KFU. Ten of them have already been identified as unique findings from 11th – 17th centuries. Twenty seven more have been registered as highly valuable items.

Dr Safin added that KFU should speed up its efforts in establishing a comprehensive electronic archival system at the University. The system will include proprietary software, servers, scanners, and other necessary infrastructure for archiving.

Ms Gabdrakhmanova offered to share the Committee’s expertise in this matter.
