Khusain Faizkhanov (1823 – 1866) was a prominent Tatar theologian, Asian studies scholar, and historian.
During the shooting, Deputy Director of the Library Elmira Amerkhanova showed manuscripts by Shihabetdin Marjani and his student Khusain Faizkhanov. Among them are historical treatises, educational reform plans, and personal letters.
The majority of autographs and lifetime lists have survived thanks to the efforts of Shigabutdin Marjani’s descendants. They transferred the invaluable heritage of their great ancestor and his early deceased disciple to the largest collection of written heritage of Tatar people in the country – which is at the Lobachevsky Library. The first gift was made by the descendants of Marjani’s daughter Galia (1852-1925) in 1937.
Another part of the collection of manuscripts of Tatar enlighteners was taken to Samarkand in 1931-1932 by the family of Marjani’s son Burhaneddin (1856-1916), a religious figure and imam of the First Cathedral Mosque of Kazan. The manuscripts were returned to Kazan in 1969-1970 by Raziya Amirkhanova, Marjani’s granddaughter. In 1986, two manuscripts by Faizkhanov, theretofore considered lost, were donated to the Scientific Library by Marjani’s grandson Daniyal Amirkhanov.
In addition to manuscripts, the film crew was also shown publications created by Husain Faizkhanov – Materials for the History of the Crimean Khanate of 1864 and biographical materials published in the Shura magazine. For the filming of the movie, the head of the Department of Manuscripts and Rare Books of the University Library, Endje Sabirova, also selected several modern editions about Khusain Faizkhanov.
The film will have been completed by October 2023.
