St Petersburg University is among the best universities in Russia in the Three University Missions Ranking

St Petersburg University has been ranked among the leading universities in Russia according to the Moscow International University Ranking ‘The Three University Missions’ (MosIUR), second only to Lomonosov Moscow State University. In the league table, St Petersburg University ranks 39th among the world’s top universities.

The rankings have been compiled by the Russian Union of Rectors since 2017 on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Three Missions of the University is a large and authoritative international ranking of universities around the world. This year’s league table includes 2,000 universities across 112 countries, including 154 higher education institutions from 46 regions of Russia. In the Russian segment of the ranking, Lomonosov Moscow State University and St Petersburg University are the Russia’s top universities and consistently achieve high scores.

The Moscow International University Ranking ‘The Three University Missions’ evaluates all the three key university missions: education, research, and interaction with society.

The ranking methodology was developed after a large-scale public discussion that involved more than 100 universities. The ranking is based on the open data available on the official websites of universities as well as data from independent global sources: online platforms for mass education; search engines; international olympiads; multilingual Wikipedia encyclopaedia; and social networks.
