A ceremony was held by Rais (Governor) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov on 16 August.
The event was headlined by the Rais along with State Counsellor of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Social Development Anastasia Rakova, Minister of Education and Science of Tatarstan Ilsur Khadiullin, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, and Rector of KFU Lenat Safin.
As for the awardees, Chair of the Department of Algebra and Mathematical Logic Marat Arslanov received the Order of Friendship (Duslyq) of Tatarstan. He comments, “I am very pleased that my long years of service to Kazan Federal University have been crowned with such an award! This is a recognition of my merits in the field of science and education. There is also a task for the future. Until December, we are conducting a competitive procedure for awarding the next Lobachevsky Medal and Prize. Next year is the year of the 220th anniversary of Kazan University. I am the head of the scientific and educational mathematical center. Our center faces very big tasks. The predecessors set a high bar, and we must be up to it. We, mathematicians, and the new generation should direct our science to the service of our Republic. There are also plans within the framework of activities in the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan. This year we established a journal named Matematika i Kompyuternye Nauki. I will do everything for it to enter Web of Science and Scopus.”
Informatics teacher Sergey Mikhailin (Lobachevsky Lyceum) received the Order for the Merit to the Republic of Tatarstan. He has trained many international champions in informatics olympiads. The awardee notes, “This is the highest award of the Republic of Tatarstan. I am very happy, especially since it happened unexpectedly. Now our lyceum student Valery Rodionov will go to Hungary for the World Computer Science Championship as a member of the Russian national team. A new generation is growing up, as the European champion Renat Karimov has moved to the 11th grade. A new season is starting, new children are coming, there is something to do. Our goals are new shining peaks, victories and medals.”
Mikhailin has also recently received the title of the Distinguished Teacher of Russia.
